Resumo

Spiritual well-being constitutes a relevant and central dimension of healthy aging; however, it is variation based on sociodemographic characteristics has been scarcely studied in the Latin American population, and particularly in the Mexican context. The objective of this study was to analyze the distribution of spiritual well-being, in its dimensions of Religious Well-Being (RWB) and Existential Well-Being (EWB), according to sex, marital status, living arrangements, and religion in older adults. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and comparative study was conducted with a sample of  participants (28 men, 38 women) with a mean age of 68.53 years (SD=6.01, range 60-89 years). The Spiritual Well-Being Scale was used. Comparative analysis was performed using the Pearson χ² test and Mann-Whitney U test for dichotomous variables. The results indicated statistically significant differences in the Religious Well-Being dimension according to sex (), with women reporting a higher median. Likewise, participants in unmarried cohabitation reported the highest average rank in Religious Well-Being, while single participants presented the lowest rank. Regarding living arrangements, those living alone obtained a higher average rank in Religious Well-Being, whereas those living with others reported higher scores in Existential Well-Being (). Those professing an active religion reported higher Existential Well-Being compared to non-believers (). It is concluded that the sociodemographic profile is differentially associated with the dimensions of spiritual well-being in older adults, a finding that has relevant implications for the design of comprehensive and culturally situated gerontological interventions.
